April 24, 1891.
Adolph Halvorsen, Esq.,
Bergen, Norway.
My dear Sir:-
I have received through Messrs. W.W. [Hurlbut?] & Co., of New York, your esteemed communication of 6th instant, in which you inform me that, together with your associates, you have decided to call your new steamer, at present in process of construction, the “Edison,” after myself, and asking my sanction thereto.
I give my consent to this with pleasure, appreciating as I do the compliment to myself embodied in such action and the motives which prompted it, and tender to yourself and associates my sincere thanks for the kind expressions contained in your letter, together with my best wishes for the success of the “Edison.”
Yours very truly,
(Signed Thomas A. Edison)
