William R. Curtis, Esq.,
Bureau of the American Republics,
Dep’t of State, Washington, D.C.
Dear Sir:-
With reference to your letter of 1st instant, as Mr. Edison had no knowledge of the request of His Excellency, the President of Chili, for a phonograph, he referred your communication to the Edison United Phonograph Company, New York, the Company controlling the instrument in Chili, and through which a phonograph for use in that country could only be obtained. Mr. Edison is now in receipt of a communication from the United Company to the effect that they have no knowledge of this request, and asking for additional information on the subject. Mr. Edison would be pleased to hear from you further on this matter.
Yours very truly,
A.O. Tate
Private Secretary
