J. M. Henderson, Esq., Secretary.
General Zinc Recovery Lighting Co. Ltd.
[illegible text] Moorgate Ct., Bdga.,
LONDON, ENGLAND.
Dear Sir:-
I beg to acknowledge the receipt of your letter of the instant in regard to Leland’s Chaperon Patents. Under license from Messrs, Leland and Chaperon I am manufacturing these for sale in the United States and other countries, and would be glad if a reasonable working arrangement could be made permitting them to be placed on sale in that part of Great Britain which is controlled by your Company. I do not desire to purchase title to these patents, but I am willing to pay a fair royalty on sales [illegible text] within your territory. By such an arrangement as this would not be satisfactory to your Company, perhaps an arrangement could be made whereby you would purchase the cells from me and market them yourselves in Great Britain, which case I would have the Edison Manufacturing Company figure on the lowest possible prices at which tese could be delivered to you. I send to you under separate cover some of the catalogues recently issued which show the improvement made by myself in the design of these cells, and containing letters from users of the battery expressing satisfaction with its operation. I have [illegible text] large amount of money in establishing a factory for the Edison-Leland Battery and should be glad to add to its [illegible text] of cells for Great Britain. The centralization of manufacture enables the lowest costs to be secured, and I am sure if you are willing to contemplate an arrangement of the kind that satisfactory prices could be quoted you by the Edison Manufacturing Company.
The battery is meeting with splendid success in this and adjacent countries, and it would without doubt he will received in Great Britain.
Yours very truly,
(Signed) Thos. A. Edison.
