June 15, 1891 Eduson United Phonograph Co G.N. Merison, Esq., Sec’y., Mills Building, New York Dear Sir:- Referring again to your letter of 8th instant, in regard to the mailing of cylinders which you have been sending through the mails to and from Europe, I notice in connection with each of the cylinders which you sent to me, that the postage stamp is placed in the box. I think it is a great mistake to place the postage stamp there, because the post office officials in cancelling the stamp are almost certain to damage the cylinder, the box not being strong enough to stand the pressure. I think it could be a good idea to have tags printed something like the one enclosed herewith, and to instruct correspondents to always place the stamp on the tag instead of the box. If there is nothing on the tag to indicate that is contained in the box, the post office officials will open it. Yours truly, Thomas A. Edison
