June 23rd, 1891 Samuel Insull, Esq., Edison Building, Broad St., New York City. Dear Sir:- I beg to confirm the following message sent you today by Mr. Edison: "I think you should say to Bowker that the proper way is to have specifications drawn up for a dynamo, not specifying how it shall be made, but what it shall do, and then let the General Company try and build it, and guarantee it; after that the Illuminating Company takes no risk, and get what they want. For instance: set forth the floor space and height, that the economy shall be ninety or ninety-four percent, that it shall have capacity of carrying double load for two hours without exceeding temperature of boiling water, that the sparkling shall be no more than the best machines in the market, shall be convenient and easy of access." Yours very truly, A.O. Tate Private Secretary
