Dear Mr. Lombard:-
Walter Miller has shown me the list he has prepared of what will be required for the Phonograph Exhibit at Montreal. I think that the whole of the material should be sent from here. Will you therefore please place an order on the Edison Phonograph Works for the machines and the supplies, so that we may have proper authority [illegible] shipping the goods. We will hold them on a memorandum or suspense bill and anything returned will be properly credited. I presume that a great deal of the stuff could be utilized by your Canadian representatives. I should also know the prices to charge our customs assessment. They cold be entered in bond but I think that the duty would have to be paid and you would be entitled to draw back upon return. These prices should be the same as those charged by you to your Canadian agents otherwise there would be trouble in the future. Perhaps the most satisfactory way to you would be for us to place the material in your hands so far as invoicing and passing customs is concerned, regard to expense I would suggest that the revenue for Nickel-Slot machines be applied first to wipe out the cost of the phonograph exhibition, profits if any to be turned over to your Canadian agents or disposed of in any way you see fit. In the event of this revenue being insufficient to cover the expense I will take care of the deficient. But of course there must be no expense incurred unless authorized by me or some one whom I shall delegate. Let me know if this is entirely satisfactory.
That little parcel which you kindly said you would take to Canada for me is not ready so I am not able to give you this trouble but I thank you just the same for your courtesy.
Yours very truly,
(Signed) A.O. Tate
