135/668 FBM October 8th, 1891. W.K.L. Dickson, Esq., Edison Laboratory, Orange, N.J. Dear Sir:- In reply to your letter of the 6th instant, I understand that the Administrator of the estate of Frank McGowan can bring suit against you to recover the amount of the note given by you to Mr. McGowan, and you would have to pay the same if judgement were obtained against you. It would not, however, be proper for you to pay the note excepting under order from the Court, as otherwise you would be liable in case the original ever turned up. I would suggest that you see Mr. Hodgkins again and find out exactly what you can do. My belief is that it is not necessary for you to act unless you want to. When you come into town, call and see Mr. Butler of this office. He arranged an affair not long ago of a nature similar to this, and can give you valuable information.. I do not know why Mr. Hodgkins considered it necessary for you to negotiate with the Administrator of the McGowan estate in order to obtain a reissue of the Stock; it is a matter between yourself and the Edison Ore Milling Company, into which the McGowan matter does not enter at all, expecting so far as the loss of the certificates are is concerned. Yours truly, A.O. Tate
