Aug. 27, 1891. George Parsons Lathrop, Esq., New London, Conn. PERSONAL. My dear Lathrop,- Mr. Edison has read your communications in regard to the book, and I think that the best way for me to reply to them is to send you his original notes, which I enclosed herewith. For the last two months Mr. Edison has been spending all his time at the Works of the New Jersey and Pennsylvania Concentrating Co. at Ogden, N.J. We have there a very valuable property which was almost destroyed by bad management and Mr. Edison has found it necessary to work night and day in order to get things into proper shape. During all this period we have not been able to get at him to do any business – in fact, he has practically been retired from the world. Yours very truly, Private Secretary.
