My dear Sir:-
I have your favor of the 18th instant, enclosing a circular or copy of a circular that you have addressed to the various phonograph companies in regard to the duplicating business. I was unaware until the receipt of your letter of the arrangements made between Mr. Edison and Mr. Lippincott in regard to the duplicating business, or that the Edison Phonograph Company did not control the name. I note what you about the desire of Mr. Edison to furnish these duplicates to the local companies at the low price so as to enable them to increase their revenue largely from the Nickel-in-the Slot machines.
I have to thank you for the list of the music which you are prepared to apply at the present time.
I note also that the Edison Phonograph Works are prepared to supply small weights upon our order to the local companies if they make requisition on us for them. I will notify the local companies as soon as I receive from the Phonograph Works the price of these [weights?], that we will be prepared to supply them as “spec- ial extras” at a price to be quoted by us, and will receive their orders for the same.
Thanking you for the information given me, I remain.
Yours very truly,
(Signed)
THOS. R. LOMBARD.
