S. D. Greene. Esq., Gen’l. Manager, Sales Dep’t., Edison Gen’l. Electric Co., New York City. Dear Sir:- Copy of your circular letter to District Manager No. 302, enclosing copy of proposed formal agreements for us between your Company and its employees, has been duly received by Mr. Edison, who raises the following point in regard to the fifth clause of the said agreement: Suppose an employee had an invention and your negotiate with him or its purchase and failed to agree, by the terms of this agreement you would then be bound to arbitrate and possibly be obliged to pay a big sum of money for a very small affair. In other words, every man could get up something and make you buy it by arbitration. To Mr. Edison the clause above referred to seems bad. Yours very truly, A.O. Tate Private Secretary.
