Oct. 5, 1891. To Henry Villard, Esq., New York. ROUGH ESTIMATE OF NEW NON-TROLLEY SYSTEM FOR CITIES. SYSTEM NO. 1. Six miles long, one Central Station, sixty cars on road at once. Double track. Everything complete, except Central Station. Cars and original cost of regular track, $310,000 per /mile. SYSTEM NO. 2. Same conditions, but with 120 cars on tracks in motion at once. COST. With exceptions as in System No. 1, $59,6000 per mile. SYSTEM NO. 3. With 240 cars on track at once, $109,600 per mile. Cars take 10 h. p. each: grades not exceeding 1 per cent. When heavy grade occurs a short section is strengthened and will add very little to total. Mr. Henderson’s office can give cost of Station outside of real estate for supplying the three systems with power. Will send estimates of Wisconsin Central to-morrow.
