Oct 9th, 1893 J.W. Gladstone Esq 110 East 23rd Street New York Dear Sir:- In reply to your favor of the 7th inst I beg to state that I am sorry but I cannot send you any money as I have not enough just not to meet the Laboratory Pay Roll and must ask you to try and get enough to cover the overdraft, and also the meet your Pay Roll on next Saturday-and unless this is done I will not promise to have any money for your Pay Rolls as I have only $400.00 in my bank and the Laboratory Payroll amounts to $600.00.So I must ask you to furnish money for your pay rolls for just now I cannot raise any money.
