Nov. 13, 1891.
A. O. Tate, Esq.,
Edison Building,
Broad Street,
New York City.
Dear Sir:-
Your letter of 10th instant enclosing communication addressed to Mr. Edison by Mr. W. J. Jenks, in regard to a snap switch that was made a long time ago by Mr. John Ott, was duly received and I now beg to report to you on the matter as follows:
Mr. Ott says that he made the snap switch in question some time during the year 1881, when he was at #65 Fifth Avenue, New York, in the Engineering Dep’t.; that one of them was placed in Major Eaton’s office at #65, and another one under the floor in the parlor or front room of the same building; that Mr. Edison, Major Eaton, Mr. Bergmann, Martin Force and Mr. Hanington all know of the switch and were familiar with its operation, if not its construction, and will doubtless remember it. We have had a search made in the Laboratory for a model, but unfortunately have been unable to find one; neither have we been able to find a drawing. The attached rough sketch, which was drawn by Mr. Ott, will give you some ideas as to the construction of the [switch?]. I return herewith the letter of Mr. Jenks.
Yours truly,
Thomas Maguire
