Dear Madame:-
I beg to advise you that, in accordance with instructions received from Mr. Edison, I am to-day returning to you by express, prepaid, the photograph of your painting “Truth Unveiling Falsehood” which you kindly sent for Mr. Edison’s inspection; I also herewith the key to the picture which accompanied your letter of 22nd ultimo.
Mr. Edison is not desirous of making any additions to his collection of pictures at present, having done so a short time ago. He regrets therefore that he is obliged to decline the offer which you make concerning your painting referred to above.
