March 17, 1892.
A. O. Tate, Esq.,
Edison Building,
Broad Street,
New York City.
My dear Sir:-
The enclosed letter from Felix Gottschalk was read by Mr. Edison, who said that he had no objection to the use of a cloth sleeve in connection with the phonograph, but that several experiments with different materials were now being conducted at the Phonograph Works, and the material which was found to give the best result would be adopted. Mr. Edison stated that further that Mr. Ballou had the matter of an improved mandrel for the phonograph now in hand and was making three different sets of appliances for the purpose of vest.
Yours very truly,
Thomas Maguire
