April 25, 1892.
Mr. Wm. G. Rowe,
Reading, Pa.
Dear Sir:-
Referring again to your letter of 14th instant, with which was enclosed sample of magnetic iron ore, Mr. Edison read the same upon his return to the Laboratory this morning, and also examined the sample. In reply he directs me to say to you that he has tried these decomposed shists before, a gentlemen having sent a barrel of same here for experimental purposes. In order to do anything with them, they would have to be washed, then dried and separated, and the highest concentrate would not exceed 86 per cent. 86% ore is offered at 2.75 on cars in New Jersey so Mr. Edison there is not every much money in it. The Bessemer people want high iron.
Yours very truly,
Private Sec'y.
