Dear Sir:-
Mr. Edison has received your letter of 23rd ultimo and is sorry to learn that you find it impossible to pay the one thousand dollars which you borrowed from him and which you agreed to pay on the 20th of the present month. He regrets to learn that your business has not prospered during the past year and trusts that it will improve [illegible crossout] in the near future. Mr. Edison will let the matter of your indebtedness to him rest until a more convenient time, in accordance with your request.
