February 8, 1893.
Francis A. Lucas, Esq., Director,
Central London Railway,
No. 30 St. Swithin's Lane, London, E. C., England.
Dear Sir: -
Mr. Edison has received your letter of 14th ultimo, in regard to the Central London Railway, and in reply directs me to say that he regrets he is not sufficiently familiar with the commercial end of the enterprise to furnish you with the data which you desire. Mr. Edison says that it would pay the projectors of the Central London Railway to send a good practical Engineer to America to inspect our electric railway systems, especially those at St. Paul and Minneapolis and other cities. In that way exact data and full information on the subject could be obtained. Mr. Edison suggests that you do not send an Electrician, but an intelligent Railroad Constructing Engineer.
Yours very truly,
AO Tate
Private Secretary.
