February 28, 1893. Mr. E. M. Smiles, c/o T. Arnold & Sons, Baltimore, Md. Dear Sir:- I have received your letter of 27th instant, enclosing a communication from Mr. Gladstone, which I return herewith. I think you are mistaken in regard to any antagonism being manifested towards you. I am quite sure from conversations which I have had with Mr. Gladstone that this is not so. He is naturally anxious to keep our expenses down as low as possible. I appreciate the fact that you have been handicapped in your work by not having a sufficient number of articles to sell, but look to the new devices we are getting out to provide you with the opportunity of making a still better record than that of the past. Yours very truly, [A.O. Tate?]
