April 18, 1893,
Jesse Seligman, Esq.,
New York City.
My dear Mr. Seligman,-
I cannot get at Mr. Edison to-day, and I understand he is going out to the mine to-morrow and probably will not return before Saturday. Will you not oblige me by letting me have a check for five thousand dollars on account of the money due the Works, concerning which I had a conversation with you this morning. The advances made to the Works have only been sufficient to pay our labor bills, and in order to avoid embarrassment it is necessary for me to use a part of the sum referred to above. I will consult Mr. Edison at the first opportunity about the deduction of commissions, and meanwhile I hope you will extend to me the favor which I ask.
Yours truly,
A.O. Tate
