June 23, 1893.
Friend Coffin,-
I have sent out a large number of blue prints for bids on pattern making for Ogden. I will give you a sample:
Bids of
[Description of bids by Mr. A., Mr. B., Mr. C., and Mr. D., for Blue Print Nos. 1003, 1010, 1012, and 1021]
Mr. D. states that he either is doing or has done work for the General Electric Co. - I forget which.
I also find that on forgings from one large concern, Siemens and Halske are paying 8 cents per lb., and the same parties bid on my job 4 cents.
I just send you these instances for your own private information. Evidently when people know that they are bidding against others they come down to hard pan.
Yours truly,
Thomas A. Edison
M.
C. A. Coffin, Esq.,
Gen'l. Electric Company,
New York.
