Messrs. Stern & Silverman,
707 Arch Street,
Philadelphia, Pa.
Dear Sirs:--
Mr. Edison regrets that he is unable to furnish you with a couple of telephones, transmitters and receivers, as requested in your letter to him of 24th ult. The instruments of this kind which was were at the Laboratory have all disappeared, excepting a few which are included in Mr. Edison's historical collection, and these he would not care to part with. This reply has been delayed owing to Mr. Edison's absence in Chicago.
Yours very truly,
A.O. Tate
Private Secretary.
