October 12th, 1893. MR. RANDOLPH :-- Will you please hand to Mr. Edison the volume containing copies of the United States patents, referred to in the attached letter from Messrs. Dyer & Seely. The volume is in the library; Mr. Kennelly knows where it is. Before submitting the book to Mr. Edison, please mark the page containing copies of the patents, so that he can refer to the latter readily. The North American Phonograph Company are considering the advisability of applying for an extension of the Canadian patents which correspond to the United States patents mentioned in Dyer & Seely's letter. Mr. Tate wishes Mr. Edison to advise him if any of the Canadian patents are worth maintaining, or if the N. A. P. Company should let them drop. If it is desired to maintain any of the Canadian patents, the extension must be applied for before the 19th of the present month. I would therefore request that you bring the matter before Mr. Edison immediately upon receipt of this, and that you notify Mr. Tate of Mr. Edison's reply with as little delay as possible. You can explain to Mr. Edison that the expiration of the Canadian patents will not affect the corresponding United States patents, the latter having issued before the filing or granting of the Canadian patents. Please return Dyer & Seely's letter. Yours very truly, Thomas Maguire
