Oct. 22, 1894. Mrs. John Burke, Llewellyn Park, West Orange, N. J., Dear Madam:- Due to the closing down of the laboratory, I found it necessary to dispense with the greater portion of my employees, and as the electrical expert, who had charge of looking after the electric light service between the different residences in the Park and the laboratory, could not be used for any other purpose, his services were also dispensed with. As a result, there has been no one here that could look after the electric light meters, and had I retained this expert, the proportionate expense would have been very considerable, and necessarily brought the bills up higher. I have therefore, had taken an average of the light used, based on the last bills sent you, charging you for your portion on that basis, for which I beg to enclose you herewith bill for light for the months of June, July, August and September. I trust that this method will be entirely satisfactory. I would also add that, for the present, I shall be compelled to pursue the same course, in rendering bills for light furnished you. Yours very truly, Thos A. Edison R[andolph]
