Friend Coster:-

I have invented a system of converting one Railway telegraph circuit into two independent circuits, which is different from the Duplex and Quadruplex as [illegible] Station cannot be used with these systems and even the terminals are not independent.

The system has the “peculiarity” that it will work when the poles are all blown down and Morse useless The system is in use on the Penna R.R. Cy. ([nine wires?]) Illinois Central R.R, Chesapeake and Ohio, B and O, Kansas City Ft. Scott and Memphis R.R New York New Haven and Hartford, Lehigh Valley and other railroads

I only charge a small royalty to keep me in [illegible]. If not inconsistent with your plan of life would you give me a letter introducing my Agent to Mr [Baldwin?] of the Southern Railroad Company stating I have the aforesaid [illegible] and want to [put up] without expense to them a sample [illegible] so they can [illegible] if its of any value to them

Yours very truly,
[Thos. A. Edison]
