May 13, 1895. Richard N. Dyer, Esq., Messrs. Dyer & Driscoll, #36 Wall st., N. Y., My dear Mr. Dyer:- I enclose you herewith original letter, dated May 11th, addressed to John F. Randolph, Secretary, of the Edison Phonograph Works, from Messrs. Seligman & Seligman, asking him to furnish them with a certified statement of the assets and liabilities of the Works, for the years 1890, 1891, 1892, 1893 and 1894, all of which they want certified to before a Notary Public, and legalized by the French Consul. This letter was handed to Mr. Edison for comment, and he returned it with the memorandum stating that it looks as though the Seligmans want to get information for their law suit against the Works, now in the Courts. He cannot see how the information which they ask for, can have anything to do with the sustaining of patents in France. If this is sworn to [before?] by the Secretary, it looks to Mr. Edison as though they could use it in their case against the Works. I enclose Mr. Edison’s original memorandum also. The letter has not, of course, been answered, and we should like to have your instructions regarding same. Yours very truly, Enc. L WEG/TW
