June 19th,1896 H. B. Auchincloss Esq - 101 West 78th Street New York Friend Auchincloss:- The original understanding was that the expenses furnishing the Light should be borne by Yourself Mr Burke and myself in proportion to the Lights. The expense being The Engineer, Coal and Oil, we then put in a Meter, but instead of dividing up the expenses I paid the principal part myself for the reason that Light cannot be made and sold anything like what was charged when the output is so small. The Main running into the house occupied by Mr Tate was put in and paid for by myself. The interior wiring I know nothing about, we cannot put in a Meter as I would require a meter man and I have none here Yours truly- Thomas A Edison
