To E. H. Johnson, Hotel Cecil, London, England. May 25, 1899. My dear Johnson, Find yours of the 5th on my return from the South, [we?] have just cabled you “Placed stock disposal Morgan month ago - Gourand nothing to do with it.” Some weeks ago I had a letter from J.P. Morgan and Company relative to my stock, and went and saw J.P. and told him what I would do and placed my stock at his disposal, and have not heard anything further from him. I have had nothing whatever to do with Gourand, directly or indirectly, for several years and any representations he makes to the contrary are incorrect. I have my own opinion as to his mental condition. Hope something will come out of the negotiations. I am well, busy, consequently happy, and willing to be very prosperous. Yours very truly, Thos A. Edison
