M.D.####Dear Sir####in reply to your letter of yesterday's date I beg to say that since ---- alternate-current machine has to alter the sign of its electrmotive force as many times per second as its alternations, it gives of ----- at corresponding moments no C.m.f whatever while the general curve of c.m.f would be roughly####To make up therefore for the absence and small c.m.f. at and near the change of sign, the ---- of the waves must be extra high. Higher than the mean given by the ---ders. The mean value is about 40% less than this ---- or maximum, and is so in every type of alternating machine, but the exact amount -- between 35 or 45 % depending upon the ----- of force and the structure of the machine####Yours truly###A.E.
