"In pursuance of the instructions contained in your letter of the 29th ult we have carefully tested the samples of "Vulcabeaton?] received, and find that while electrically we can discover no fault with it, there exists the mechanical objection that it does not plane nicely in the lathe but leaves a burred rough surface behind the tool. . . .## I think that in view of these facts unless you wish to employ it in stamped pieces it is unsuitable for general commutator use."
