December 6th, 1900 Messrs. Pilling & Crane, Girard Building, Philadelphia, Pa. Dear Sirs:- We are in receipt of yours of the 5th inst. and note that you bought the Baird securities at Public Sale for $41,000, and have made arrangements with Miller & Company in which they would be held for joint account. We are very gad to learn that you have obtained the securities at so low a price and have every confidence that this will work you out without any less on the transaction. We beg herewith to enclose letter about the Phonograph Works and its earnings, addressed to E.C. Miller & Company, as requested. We will also make inquiry among our friends as to selling some of the bonds and would be glad if you would put a price on them. Mr. Edison says that he thinks they are glit edge in every particular and he would not advise you to sell them at a low price. In view of the above enclosed, the writer is every glad that the Bank turned down the offer of 75, and if at any time either Mr. Edison or I can be of service in this matter, do not hesitate to call on us, as we both feel that we are in a measure responsible for your being in the present situation, and sincerely hope that you will be able to clean up without loss. Yours very truly, W.S. Mallory
