Mr. W.S. de Camp,
35 Mt. Morris Park, West,
New York City,
Dear Sir:-
Replying to yours of the 17th inst. to Mr. Edison, beg to state that the Works at Edison were in operation from May until October, but owing to the very large stocks of iron ore and the Eastern Furnace, we were unable to sell our output; as closed down in October, having quite a large stock on hand,
The operations were quite satisfactory, except from some of the machinery and shafting which rested on wood; and we found it almost impossible to keep it in line, causing us a great deal of trouble. The Works will be closed this Winter, and it is Mr. Edison's intention next Spring to rebuild portions of the plant with steel and memory.
At the Comet Works, the buildings are just being erected, and we hope to be in operation sometime next Spring.
Mr. Edison joins the writer in extending to you the compliments of the season.
Yours very truly,
W.S. Mallory
