- [MB077], Letter from Edison Lamp Co, Francis Robbins Upton to Charles Batchelor, September 9th, 1882
- Editor's Notes
- Enclosing statements of cost of lamp for last 18 months. Last year's costs include development at MP; this year's costs high due to moving factory, breaking in new hands. Expect to be about 50cents for next six months. Training new hands very costly; they break so many lamps! Will come to see you next July. Now making 800A lamps daily (including 10cp A and 32cp lamps). "We are going to have 40 cents each for lamps from the Parent Co and this will make a good business in the future, though it will be a years or two before the tide turns." Detailed itemized statement follows as MB078, showing dollar outlays and per-lamp costs for equipment, material, labor, etc. A GOOD REFERENCE.
