Title
[MB077], Letter from Edison Lamp Co, Francis Robbins Upton to Charles Batchelor, September 9th, 1882
Editor's Notes
Enclosing statements of cost of lamp for last 18 months. Last year's costs include development at MP; this year's costs high due to moving factory, breaking in new hands. Expect to be about 50cents for next six months. Training new hands very costly; they break so many lamps! Will come to see you next July. Now making 800A lamps daily (including 10cp A and 32cp lamps). "We are going to have 40 cents each for lamps from the Parent Co and this will make a good business in the future, though it will be a years or two before the tide turns." Detailed itemized statement follows as MB078, showing dollar outlays and per-lamp costs for equipment, material, labor, etc. A GOOD REFERENCE.
