Title
[MBLB4011], Letter from Charles Batchelor to Thomas Alva Edison, November 19th, 1881
Editor's Notes
Find a big fault in the Opera machines. After a little running either the copper commutator bars raise up or the micas lower, so we have to file the coppers. When the coppers raise above the micas, intervening space gets filled with copper [dust] from the brushes and crosses. Some of the commutators have consequently gotten almost red hot; they're not nearly as solid as the old machines.
