Title
[MBLB4219], Letter from Charles Batchelor to Joshua Franklin Bailey, April 11th, 1882
Editor's Notes
Wish you had been here to help get my claim for Exposition expenses paid by the Co (fair amt of detail on this process). Porges rejected it "and I don't think I'll ask them for anything again in a hurry." Porges was supposed to pay Moreau but apparently didn't; pls look after this on your return. Private: shortly before you left I got cable asking about your health and why you never transmitted the signed contracts. Now I find that "it is your friend Dr. Moses who has given the people there {US?} the idea that you are entirely too sick to ever attend to business again, and that Puskas never did ditto. My cable in return hashowever dispelled the ideas and immediately afterwards you had a cable allowing your commission. Told Porges I'm going to send for another man from US to help with mfging and I'll spend at least half my time in the office. I've telegraphed for new man; I'll take charge of the experiment at Ansus letting Fodor do it. Also I take charge of the municipal installation but let Serf(?) do it. What do you think? Changed address. Hope the trouble is out of the machine there.
