- Letter to ed of Telegraphic Journal. Re earlier article on carbon rheostat. I used several hundred discs of silk saturated with carbon, providing greater range of resistance; "had I merely used powerdered carbon, as in the Clerac tube, it would have been a failure." Also objects to review of Prescott's book. Has numerous drawings of microphones made by amateurs, which resemble carbon telephone. "The ordinary carbon telephone may be adjusted to any degree of delicacy, and when so adjusted is as sensitive as the so-called microphone."
