Title
[MBSB21358], Letter from Francis Robbins Upton to Scientific American, November 11th, 1879
Editor's Notes
Reply to Seeley's letter to SciAm on issue of internal/external dynamo resistance. Main point of contention seems to be whether decreasing armature resistance increases proportion of energy wasted in friction & heating, lowering overall efficiency. Upton claims tests show otherwise; Edison's "machine is so made that it would be impossible to use it with the same resistance outside as inside, as it would heat the wire on the armature so as almost to burn it, by carrying a current so much in excess of that for which it was intended." But TAE still withholding full details.
