- Editor's Notes
- Upton's essay on electric light and power. Starts off by discussing Tyndal. "Many centuries before Christ it had been observed that yellow amber (electron) when rubbed possessed the power of attracting light bodies. This is the germ out of which has grown the science of electrcitiy, a name derived from the substance in which the power of attraction was first observed." Discusses at great length how we come to know electricity, through science, sinc we can't observe many of its propeties with the senses. Goes on to discuss electricity as a commodity.
