When assisted ie turned in same direction the current can be brought to zero and then there is no spark by turning it further deflection in the opposite direction" followed pages of drawings current diagrams, Gramme diagram, lines of force diagram, non-commutator attempts, Faraday loops, currents on Gramme, attempt at a machine for multiplying magnetism [these may all date from 1878, see Vol. 16 magneto multiplier design]; notes that follow on resistance and heating of platinum spirals may be from Dec but prob from Jan or Feb 1879
