[N038130] Technical Note, c. 1879
Editor's Notes
cost of field magnet wire; fr. 441 "Thermo piles may be used with magnets under this condition [seems to be what precedes it in terms of efficient winding of field magnets]. They give the constant EMF which is required and may be used thus on a resistance which makes the resistance of the thermo less in comparison of course if a thermo of low resistance could be made it would be the best as the current costs very little from thermos yet a high resistance can be run from them to gret advantage the cost being the wire around the magnets."; calcs with 100 ohm lamp, 1 ohm machine, 1 ohm conductor 30 series of cases
