Title
[N223082], Technical Note, Francis Jehl, July 21st, 1881
Editor's Notes
Seems to be some sort of collector: "This was held in front of the armature to see if we could collect any electricity" but didn't work. "Machine running 333 the field charged by the small machine. We put a sounder with resistance across the line to see if there was any cross..did not find any cross the sounder was steady." Also put "a large metal plate of brass connecting the poles." p. 84 Jehl describes arrangement for putting VERY SMALL resistance in armature circuit to test for armature flashing. With field magnet on and resistance cables connected, got large flash. Then took out 1 resistance box, no spark. Then short-circuited the wires and got flash; TAE found armature crossed in three places. Few more similar tests. Followed by several pages drawings, some by TAE, of resistance coils, then what may be alternative connections to the commutator, then (pp. 92-93), schematic drawings of current flow in/out of armature bar. Unclear.
