Title

[N249001], Technical Note, Charles Turner Hughes, February 12th, 1882

Editor's Notes

Probably for electric railroad. "Tried Motor as it came from Goerck St Works with fast pulley on countershaft from armature. Result not satisfactory. Unless belts were very loose the power was not great enough to start Motor and car without difficulty. Armature in use-- "A" .14 ohms. Two separate coils round the magnets were of 1.7 ohms resistance and the other 10. Ohms both in multiple arc. The larger coil to be used for starting and the 10. Ohm coil after getting under way and the large coil cut out entirely. Worked fairly but took too much power and heated the magnets and made Z Dynamos in multiple arc heat up very much. Heated armature so as to melt the solder."
