Title
[N317171], Technical Note, Thomas Alva Edison, April 16th, 1886
Editor's Notes
p. 171 "Iron wire Non-E Telephone Perhaps the buried iron wire could be wraped with loose cotton laid lengthwise, & slightly branded over to hold it in its place-- This would prevent transmission of vibrations to outside matter. Experiment to find a non-condr of sound from an iron wire to matter around it-- glass tubes or even lead tubes with fine piano wire in 200 feet lengths could have a vacuum in it permanently & the joint be made an elastic one so vibrations would be carried for miles"
