Editor's Notes

John Ott. Put a piece stick in metal tube which stick has been soaked in Saturagted Solution Tannic Acid. Put some tannic acid in bottom, bring up quickly in store of pump room {Marked 2} Also put five stick in one tube with red oxide Mercury in bottom, to give off oxygen. {Marke 1 Finished J. F. Ott} Make couple extra brass tubes suspend in those pine pieces. Allow these to temain in lamp heating stove 1 to 3 days. Keep record of time and deliver to me. {One day Marked 3 Three day marked 4} Make a drawing die to draw 6 x 10 filiment o steel and if it works will have a block diamond one made. The edges can be sharp but I prefer them slightly rounded thus [drawing] 6/1000 thick Mr. Ott-- Perhaps you can draw them around and then run them through a platina drawing knife or die-- Take fifteen (15) moulds same as they use for the regular Carbonization and hollow out the little weight so it can be loaded with considerable Iridosimine which is an infusible metal, which comes in grains. A piece of paper carbon can be placed over the top and cemented with sugar and carbonized. A small hole should be left in paper cover to allow of more or less Iridisomeine being put in or out. The object is to load up the weight gradually so the carbon filiment will be carbonized under more or less strain. I propose to put the forms at an angle of 30 and 40 degrees [drawings] John Ott. Get 4 pieces of gas pipe 8 foot long. The first one to have 1/4 inch hole inside measurement, The next size must have a hole which will allow the 1/4 inch pipe to go into it easily-- These two must go into the 3rd and the 3 into the fourth, an insulated wire is to be run through the 1/4 inch hole say, No 16 or 12. The pipe is to be set up on a board or screwed up to wall & wire arranged thus:" [drawing]
