Title

[NV08001], Technical Note, Thomas Alva Edison, January 11th, 1877

Editor's Notes

Long series of various experiments on this day and night: etheric force miscellaneous arrangements using magnets; trying solutions to generate by electrolysis; is etheric spark molecular vibration?; arc light [about this time also begins using carbon in telephone]; p. 5 is weird EMG expt [is this etheric?]; back to etheric; then discusses arc light carbon points needing "chain of carbon particles" between them to generate spark; then etheroscope and inductive current causing spark; then discusses solutions to produce spark followed by discussion of phenomenon [including EMG] observed with apparatus and then back to solutions [idea re battery depolarization]; focus has moved to electrolysis cells; copper wire in loop and right angles to causing sound bubbles and different tones to read Morse [wires contain gases -- why take so long to see this in elec light wires] -- possible explanation why H better for marks in auto -- uses his ability to hear as point of comparison -- three electrode cell [non-vacuum tube] -- quit work 6 am -- see next few days for annotation and illustration
