- The source of the dispute between TAE and Tomlinson has finally been revealed. It resulted from a dispute over the division over the proceeds of the sale of the phonograph patent. The phonograph patent was sold to the North American Phonograph Company, but TAE believed that he should have gotten more money while Tomlinson believed he was just getting the amount he deserved.
