- TAE has been "razzle-dazzled" out of $250,000 by Tomlinson. Gilliland and Tomlinson reported that the Lippincott syndicate offered $500,000 for the phonograph patent, which TAE accepted. But TAE later found out that $750,000 had been offered. Tomlinson and Gilliland went to Europe after the phonograph was sold and returned separately two months later.
