Editor's Notes

"Mr. Edison off for Europe" "Among the passengers who started for Europe yesterday was Thomas A. Edison, the electrician. Considerable mystery surrounded his departure. His name did not appear on the official passenger list of the steamer La Bourgogne, which carried him to Europe. His tickets were purchased in the name of his private secretary, Samuel Insull, and wife, as Mrs. Edison accompanied him. At his own office in this city, nothing was known of Mr. Edison's intentions on Friday evening, and even an hour before the boat's departure the enmployes were uncertain whether their cheif was bound for foreign shores. However, a reporter of the Tribune had little trouble in finding Mr. Edison on board the french steamer early yeterday morning. Chatting with Bishop Littlejon, of Brookly, and other friends who were in his party, he seemed to have little fear of seasickness of any disagreeable weather. ## Mr. Edison chose a French vessell for the journ beccause he did not desire to touch England, having an aversion to the land of Albion. It is only one of his whims, but so strong that it is still doubtful if he will visit London when homeward bound, despite the great interests which call him there. . . ."
rumored that Edison's mental faculties impaired by too close attention to mechanical problems; seeking rest and health in Europe
