- "Preliminary statement of Edison Issue-- 'In a Sprengel Air Pump the Mercury supply tube having formed integral therewith a contraction above the fall tube for regulating the flow of mercury' I first employed this invention at Menlo Park New Jersey about and during the fall of 1878 using water as this exhausting agent. In the summer of 1879 I used it with mercury as the active agent. This was before said Bohm had visited Menlo Park or entered my employ."
