Title

[X154A7DS], Letter from Jesse H Lippincott to Edward Hibberd Johnson, August 23rd, 1888

Editor's Notes

As our itnerview was somewhat hurried and I did not get time to say all that I wanted to say, I beg leave to add that should the matter that the Herald now has, or any matter of a similar nature go before the public, it will make it very difficult for me to comply with the terms of my contract with Mr. Edison, and the whole thing may fall through. I have paid him but a trifle, $10,000. so far, and should I fail to complete the transaction and the combination fall through [image cut off in photocopy: there is a premium ----- -----] get value for the money advanced. I think that unless you tell the Herald that since you made the statement the matter has been arranged they may insist on publishing it as a sensation. I have no doubt that when you, Mr Painter and myself get together that we can arrange matters satisfactorily to all concerned. Personally my aim all along has been to avoid litigation in every form.
